Would love to know which house you stayed in so i can share this article. I know almost every owner. I'm build a mixed use structure on 30th, the "main" street
BTW, This was my favorite part of the article:
At the same time, if Atlantic Beach had consolidated into North Myrtle Beach like neighboring towns in 1968, high-rise condos and hotels would have paved over its rich history. Instead of locals having to reclaim Atlantic Beach’s story after decades of unrelated development, its vacant space provides a blank canvas on which they can paint its story for future generations.
Sam, it’s very interesting to trace back the disagreements that happened back then and compare it to some of the issues raised today. I appreciate this prompt for me to think about some of the issues faced today.
Thank you for pointing to this. The similarities over decades are uncanny, and I wonder how many times we skip over longstanding debates like this one in other communities simply because we don’t know the history.
My husband and I purchased a lot in Atlantic Beach and came across your very intriguing and informative articles, written with a sense of genuine care and intellectual curiosity. We are still figuring it out. I'll be back to invite you to the grand opening of our little spot in paradise. Here's an update. But finally I believe we have the right leadership team in place
Thank you so much for reading and for the kind words! I'm grateful that my learning journey about Atlantic Beach has been helpful to others. Please do circle back. Also, thank you for posting the latest update--I hadn't checked in a few months. Goodness, what a saga. Hopefully from this point, the council can rebuild trust and find staffing to support the town's next chapter. There's so much potential!
